A transmitter attached to the front leg of a cow and the receiver unit on the pole are used to record data about the cow at the Milky Whey Dairy in Nelson County. The transmitter contains the cow's identifying number along with a pedometer to count the number of steps a cow takes between milkings. The information is stored in a central data base at the dairy.
