A blue gill rises from the Marion County Sportsman Club Lake, hooked by Joe Knott of Campbellsville, Ky. Knott uses red worms, wax worms and mill worms for bait. When the water is warm, Knott uses crickets. "They're good bait, those crickets," Knott says.

Joe Knopp of Campbellsville, Ky, fishes for blue gill at the Marion County Sportsman Club Lake. Knopp, 75, says he's fished since he was 11 or 12.

Bob Watson of Lebanon, Ky, spends a foggy morning in October at the Marion County Sportsmans Club Lake. Watson, 72, says, "I'm gonna catch a keeper after a while." But he has to throw most of them back. They're too small.
