Thompson opened her shop, The Lair on Main, two years ago. Her wishes are to increase her client base and encourage racial diversity in her shop. Thompson said, "My father told me that if you have a skill, no one can take your job away from you."
One of Thompson's goals for her beauty salon is to encourage diversity within her client base. "I'd like to see more Caucasian clients in here. I mean, I can cut anyone's hair," Thompson said, "When I was in hair-design school in Louisville, most of the styles I learned were for Caucasians."
After Thompson gives Drew Spalding a trim, the two friends sit down and swap stories and catch up on the latest news around town.
Taking a break from a discussion on popular music, Louise Tharp, 77, and son, Andy, 36, wait for a perm to set in Jean Thompson's beauty shop, The Lair on Main.
Louise Tharp, 77, and her daughter are Thompson's regular clients and friends. "I take appointments, walk-ins, anyone -- old, young, whatever," Thompson said.
