19_OCT_2004 Father Joseph visits his mother, Emma, who lives at the Sansbury Care Center in Loretto, Ky., 3 days a week, taking her for walks in the courtyard whever weather permits. Emma, 88, suffered a stroke last July, eventually leaving her unable to care for herself.

20_OCT_2004 Father Joseph makes a mid-week visit to Holy Cross Catholic Church to tidy up for Sunday mass. Only Sunday masses are held at Holy Cross, which is the oldest Catholic church West of the Appalacian Mountains.
