Girl's Basketball Coach

Coach Breeding sits in his favorite chair and talks about his wife, and life in general. He says, "It hurts me to see her how she is now and remember how she was - time makes a difference. His wife Wanda had a mental breakdown and has been living in a home called the Waynesburg Manor for Personal Care in Lincoln County Kentucky about 60 miles away. He had gone to visit her earlier on this day.

Ralph Breeding visits with wife Wanda in her room at the Waynesburg Manor for Personal Care in Lincoln County. HIs wife has been there for three years for treatment of severe depression and he tries to visit once a week. Sometimes, he brings her home with him for the weekend. She asks him almost as soon as she sees him, "Did you get my letter? I told you I loved you in my letter." Ralph Breeding, a 76-year-old girls' basketball coach, separates some wood into two piles, which he later hauled off to another piece of property to be burned. The wood was from a fence he recently took down since he sold his mule and no longer needed the fence.

Ralph Breeding, a 76-year-old coach of a girls' basketball team, returns from his morning workout before dawn and climbs the stairs to his apartment on Main Street in Lawrenceburg.
