Porfirio Alvarez teaches his son, Jesus, 8, how to put a new chain on a chain saw. The father and son often do chores together. Jesus helps his father by herding the cows into the barn and hosing down the barn after milking is complete.

Porfirio Alvarez, who milks cows at Buckmeadow Farms, takes a break to bottle-feed his 1-year-old son, Juanjosue. Alvarez and his wife, Eduarda, live on the farm, in a mobile home purchased for them by their employer, Scotty Buckley. They have three children.
