Although many jobs have been lost as manufacturers left the area, department stores and other commercial ventures have been brining new jobs that are much needed by the community.

Mayor Arthur Byrn of Mayfield, Ky. tells local Mayfield High School students to be more careful following a pep rally on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008. The pep rally was held the evening before the major local rivalry between Mayfield High School and Paducah. "It's a serious rivalry. When I was a small boy, I remember sitting on my grandparents porch crying because we lost," said Byrn.
Mayfield Mayor Arthur Byrn spends time at home on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2008 following a week of intense clean up following damage caused by Hurricane Ike. Byrn spent time the previous week operating equipment to help clear debris around the city. "Being a public steward, I feel that helping people is what I am supposed to do," said Byrn.
